Specialized Cycling Shoes
Specialized cycling shoes refer to shoes made by Specialized, a manufacturer of different cycling and biking footwear. They have produced various shoe models with different traits. However, they also share come common features, all intended to support the feet and keep knee strain to a minimum.
Relieving Knee Pressure
The shoes have been developed with ergonomics in mind. Some of the shoes come with the Varus Wedge design. This allows the foot to angle a bit. The result is the feet, knees and hips are aligned with the pedal.
The Varus Wedge boosts the foot to pedal power. At the same time it limits the pressure on the knees. Reduced knee strain results in more effective workouts.
Support for the Feet
This will depend on the soles used. These shoes are designed to spread the metatarsal bones. This can reduce incidents of nerve damage and injuries to blood vessels when slow pedaling.
The shoe is also designed to reduce swelling as well as hot spots. Many of their shoes also have raised arch supports. This adds power to the feet, improving pedal power. At the same time stability is increased.
Fitting
When trying on a shoe, make sure it is a snug fit. A snug fit means the heels are cradled in the cup. The toes should not reach the end of the shoe.
Materials and Construction
Specialized cycling shoes are made from various materials. A lot of the shoes are constructed from synthetic leather. They have Velcro straps, but others use PowerZone lacing systems. Some of their models, like Mary Jane style, combine laces and Velcro strap.
Body Geometry Technology
The Body Geometry cycling shoes are equipped with very stiff soles aimed at boosting pedal transfer power. The shoes have F.A.C.T. carbon soles to ensure the power you exert is transferred to the pedal.
These shoes also have individually chromed carbon to keep the shoes and feet colder. The carbon works by reflecting the heat at the pavement.
Specialized BG Comp Men’s Mountain Bike Shoe
This shoe has a low profile and M-lock SL buckle. This is designed to make it more secure. The soles are light weight, made of nylon and come with co-molded lugs (for off-bike traction). Another feature of the Comp is the hard molded toe kick protector with welded reinforcements.
The upper is Micromatrix engineered. The shoes have BG contours at the footbed and outsole. The two-bolt SPD-style cleat pattern works with most MTB pedals.
